The lone woman on the Comedians of Comedy tour — also featuring Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis, and Brian Posehn — Maria Bamford more than keeps up with the boys, despite her helium voice, wide-eyed nervousness, and self-deprecating humor. She uses her alleged manic-depression and inability to function in everyday life as a comedic trope — The Maria Bamford Show on Super Deluxe was supposedly shot while she was living at her parents' house in Minnesota following a nervous breakdown. Her humor is at once milk-shooting-out-of-nostrils funny and strikingly earnest, a refreshing change from the mean-spirited shock humor and abstract absurdity that seem to dominate comedy clubs these days.
