Performing Arts: Theatre LA Theatre Works: War of the Worlds / The Lost World

Familiar to NPR and XM listeners, the acclaimed radio-theatre company LA Theatre Works comes to Brooklyn for a pre-Halloween get-together. John de Lancie, Star Trek: The Next Generation's all-knowing Q, directs a cast of veteran thespians in a science-fiction double bill that employs audio effects old and new. First on the program is a re-creation of the Orson Welles/Mercury Theatre dramatization of HG Wells' War of the Worlds; 70 years ago this October 30, Orson's radiocast was mistaken for a real Martian invasion. The second half is devoted to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World, in which dinosaurs — not Holmes and Professor Moriarty — run amok.
