More Flavor: Festival Pridefest

2008 is a landmark year for queer rights. At least one presidential candidate, while not endorsing same-sex marriage, considers gays, lesbians, and transgender people a valuable voting bloc and has taken pains to acknowledge them. California is issuing marriage licenses to all its citizens, regardless of orientation — and (surprise!) the Golden State has not fallen into the sea, as some conservative commentators predicted. The progress is just one reason to celebrate, so hoist your rainbow banner and join your brothers and sisters in the Pride parade and rally, then head to Pier 54 for dancing, fireworks, and more dancing.

Note: Tickets for Dance on the Pier can be purchased here. The parade, rally, and street fair are free.
