Art Artist as Publisher

In response to art-world elitism, or simply for lack of a better option, many young, independently minded artists have taken to publishing as a means of shaping and sharing their work. The Center for Book Arts highlights this alternative approach in its Artist as Publisher show, establishing three separate "reading rooms," each curated by a different team of book-arts experts. The exhibition features works by established multimedia artists such as Paul McCarthy (remember those chocolate Santas with butt-plugs?), Devendra Banhart, and Brendan Fowler (aka BARR), as well as a slew of lesser-known practitioners of the craft.
